Comics Dungeon Rant 6/4/2007

Hi Everyone,
Not too much happening, shipping schedule is back to normal for a while.
This Wednesday could be a bit more hectic than usual for a shipping day, so
y'know, my urge to kill will be fairly high.

New stuff:
-Paul Pope Batman Black & White statue back in stock
-Big TPB/GN week! 52 vol 1, Boys vol 1, Girls vol 4, Walt Kelly's Our Gang,
Fear Agent vol 2, Ultimate Galactus HC, and more. Side note, giant purple
man with a capital 'G' on his chest is still cooler than a swarm of
intergalactic bugs. Nothing you say can convince me otherwise.
-Copy of Amazing Spider-Man #136, 1st Harry Osborn as Green Goblin. And
another Web of Spider-Man #1 as well as Thanos Quest #1 &2.
-Infinite Crisis wave 2 figures arrived, including Firestorm, Wonder Woman,
Superman, Pissed Off Batman, and Donna Troy in both the cosmic outfit and
Teen Titans costume.
-Some nice old Little Lulu comics
-New issues of Buffy and Dark Tower arrive this week

Ordering stuff:
-Need pre-orders on the new Booster Gold & Black Adam series
-I am planning on giving everyone who was down for 52 the 52 Aftermath: Four
Horsemen 1-shot by Keith Giffen
-If you are down for Outsiders you will automatically get the Outsiders:
Five of a Kind mini-series
-Jack Bauer action figure from McFarlane toys in the newest order form.
-Taking orders for Umbrella Academy from Dark Horse, in case you were
interested by the free comic book day giveaway

Dust previews
http://www.comicbookresources.com/news/newsitem.cgi?id=10709

Recommendations:
-Nicolette, 'Green Lantern Corp' -"I find this title to be a bit more
enjoyable than the main title, mostly because of the constant action and the
alternating cast of characters. Great writing by Dave Gibbons and art by
Patrick Gleason(who draws an awesome Kilowog). Also, can't go wrong with Guy
Gardner."
http://glcorps.dcuguide.com/
-Chris #2, 'Punisher: Barracuda' - "Guest starring Chris Walken! One of the
funniest books this year, worth checking out."
http://www.marvel.com/catalog/?book_id=6617
-Chris #1, 'Punisher Vol 3 HC'- "In general, I never liked the Punisher
character. But Garth Ennis' version is one of my favorite books period.
Mostly because of the depiction of the Punisher not as an anti-hero, but as
a very disturbed sociopath who has killed well over hundreds of thousands of
people. This collection has the Slavers story arc as well as the
introduction of the Barracuda."
-Sean, 'Iron Fist new series'- "Brubaker has pretty much been one of the
only consistently good writers over at Marvel for a while and Iron Fist is
no exception. Between his plotting and Fraction's writing the book has a
nice balance of serious asskicking and humor. Just the fact that they
brought back Davos the Steel Serpent is fairly impressive."

Comics Dungeon Rant 05/28/07

Hi Everyone,
Just a heads up, next week's shipment will be delayed due to the holiday.
Comics will be arriving on the 31st.

Ordering Stuff:
-If you want New Avengers/Transformers, you have to sign up. I'm not going
to automatically sign you up for it if you already get New Avengers or
Transformers
-Not too may of you signing up for the new Thor series. More than 20 of you
have to like Thor.
-Virtually no preorders for the Deadpool/GLI Summer Special. You all make me
very sad.

New Stuff:
-The new Pokemon decks and boosters arrived.
-Iron Fist Bowen statue looks awesome. More things should come with a choice
of a normal fist or a fiery fist that was plunged into the molten heart of
the dragon Shou-Lao the Undying.
-Zombie t-shirts up the wazoo, as well as some Gloomy Bear
-Gloomy Bear and Labbit toys from KidRobot
http://www.kidrobot.com/

Recommendations:
-Sean, 'Adventures of Barry Ween Boy Genius'- "One of the funniest comics
around and some of Judd Winnicks best work. Really wish he would just go
back to this."
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barry_Ween

-Jon V, 'Action Hero Archives Vol 2'- "Great collection of Ditko Charlton
works."
http://www.dccomics.com/graphic_novels/?gn=6943

-Chris, 'Otherside TPB'- "I've always been a fan of Cameron Stuart's art and
the work in this volume is great. Well done story by the writer of Vertigo's
Scalped, Jason Aaron. If your not much of a war comic reader I can see you
almost skipping this but it has the usual vertigo horror/suspense/mature
reader mix that keeps it interesting."
http://www.dccomics.com/graphic_novels/?gn=7234

-Nicolette, 'Promethea vol1-5'- "One of Alan Moore's experimental books that
really pays off. The JH Williams III art is breathtaking."
http://www.dccomics.com/graphic_novels/?gn=1104

-Scott, 'Checkmate vol1-2'- "Can't understand why this book isn't more
popular. It's a political thriller mixed with super-heroes. If you like
Queen & Country or the Suicide Squad this book is great."

Comics Dungeon Rant 5/22/07

Hi Everyone,
If you have the opportunity when you next come in, please update your most
current phone number with us. Just in case we need to get in contact, it's
easier to call than for me to hunt down specific emails.

Random notes!
-The Infinite Crisis Wave 2 assortment of figures is delayed until the end
of the month (these were expected last week)
-New shirt orders arrived with lots of jersey designs and Captain America
stuff
-Lynda Carter Wonder Woman statue scheduled to arrive this week
-Bunch of Eerie, Creepy, and Vampirella magazines came in over the weekend

Recommendations:
-Chris, 'Fafred & The Gray Mauser TPB' - "Long out of print, I was hoping
they would bring this stuff back soon. Great Mignola art and the Chaykin
script adaptation of the original works is nice. And I don't even really
like Chaykin that much."
http://www.darkhorse.com/profile/profile.php?sku=10-686
-Scott, 'Plain Janes GN' - "Lots of fun for the ages 11-18 group as well as
adults. If you have a young daughter that likes manga like Fruit Baskets
this works perfect."
http://www.dccomics.com/graphic_novels/?gn=7218
-Chris (the other, skinny Chris), 'Nova #1-2' - "Awesome read, once I read
number one I really wanted to get to #2 and it didn't dissapoint."
-Jon V, 'Fallen Son: Captain America'- "It didn't suck."
http://www.marvel.com/catalog/?book_id=6557
-Nicolette, 'Mouse Guard HC' - "Beautifully drawn and a really nice story.
Really nice job on the formatting of this HC as well."
http://www.davidpetersen.net/mouseguard/index.htm
-Jon P, 'Agents of Atlas HC' - "Great package for a great price. The current
series was well doen and alot of fun, but the reprints in this volume are
awesome."
http://www.rackraids.com/index.php/2007/04/30/agents-of-atlas-premiere-hc/
-Sean, 'My Dead Girlfriend' -"Highly recommended by Joss Wheedon, Brad
Meltzer, and Geoff Johns. Fun little read for younger teens and adults."

Free Comic Book Day Legislation

Here is a cool article published by Diamond Comics and distributed to its customers. I am posting here to get your response.

FCBD Lauded by U.S. House of Representatives
Lead Stories, Diamond Daily, 5/3/2007

FCBD Lauded by U.S. House of Representatives

On May 5, over 2,000 comic book shops across the nation will hand out more than 2 million comic books free as a part of Free Comic Book Day (FCBD), and they will do so with the admiration and respect of the United States House of Representatives!

Representative C.A. Dutch Ruppersberger of Maryland will introduce a new resolution into the House, which supports the industry event. Once the resolution is passed, Free Comic Book Day will be congratulated and commended for its creative approach to promoting literacy and celebrating the unique American art form. To view a copy of Rep. Ruppersberger’s resolution, click here.

With 44 special edition comic books from some of the industry’s greatest publishers – including Gold Sponsors Archie Comic Publications, Bongo Comics Group, Dark Horse Comics, DC Comics, Devil’s Due Publishing, Dynamite Entertainment, Gemstone Publishing, IDW Publishing, Image Comics, Marvel Comics and TOKYOPOP – there is truly something for every fan that attends.

Now in its sixth year, FCBD is a celebration of an international art form and the literacy that comics encourage. The event salutes the medium's energy and boundless creativity, and drives new readers into their local comic shops. For more information, visit www.freecomicbookday.com.
